RATCH Group and Sahapat Group support SMR Technology to respond clean energy demand from industrial sector and national NZE goal

RATCH Group Public Company Limited and Saha Group announced a collaboration to study Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology to support government's policy on increase of electricity generation from clean fuels in response to demand of industrial sector with an aim to achieve Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Emissions (NZE) Goals by 2050 and 2065, respectively. Mr. Nitus Voraphonpiput, Chief Executive Officer on behalf of RATCH Group and Saha Pathana Inter-Holding Public Company Limited (SPI), represented by Mr. Vichai Kulsomphob, Chief Executive Officer, have recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the Promotion and Dissemination of Knowledge in Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology. The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Boonsithi Chokwatana, Honorary Chairman of Sahapat Group, Mr. Sujarit Patchimnan, SPI’s Director, and Mr. Sutat Patmasiriwat, RATCH’s Chairman.

Mr. Nitus Voraphonpiput, Chief Executive Officer of RATCH, said that this collaboration underscores a collective commitment to supporting the adoption of SMR technology to meet the industrial sector's demand for clean electricity and the net zero emissions target. The technology utilizes a fuel source that generates reliable electricity without emitting greenhouse gases. When integrated with renewable energy, it further enhances the stability of the power system, ensuring industries have access to dependable clean electricity, eventually leading the country towards a low-carbon economy and society. The signing of the MOU will focus on promoting and disseminating comprehensive knowledge about SMR technology particularly in key areas such as safety, waste management, relevant laws and regulations, economic, environmental, and social benefits, as well as the progress of countries adopting SMR technology to drive the energy transition. The collaboration will involve with various agencies and organizations to ensure access and opportunity for all sectors to gain information on this transformative technology.

Mr. Vichai Kulsomphob, Chairman of Executive Committee and CEO of SPI, emphasized that sustainable energy and environment currently are a critical for all sectors in the society. Thailand has recognized this importance and introduced a new Power Development Plan that focuses on sustainable electricity production and environment, reflecting in the increase portion of clean fuel generation. Saha Group, Thailand's largest consumer goods conglomerate with over 80 years of history, is well aware of environmental sustainability and ready to support clean energy technology development in line with Thailand's energy development plan. In particular, SMR technology is seen as key solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and strengthening safe energy system in the future. It is confident that this collaboration will bring new knowledge, encourage understanding, and enhance access to SMR technology that can move forwards the development in new form of clean energy technology, significantly benefiting Thailand in the future.
